Device services
Explain repair progress beyond 'under inspection'.
Give customers a useful timeline for appliances, game consoles and other electronics with diagnosis, parts and testing clearly separated.
A workflow you could start with
- 1Device received
- 2Fault diagnosed
- 3Component repair
- 4Functional testing
Where customers lose visibility
Diagnosis and testing are often longer than the physical fix.
A device may need fault isolation before the correct component can be ordered. Without an update, the customer cannot tell whether the shop has begun work or is waiting for evidence.
After a component is replaced, the repair may still need a burn-in or functional test. Calling it 'done' too early creates an avoidable expectation.
What a progress page changes
Make technical work understandable.
Keep the page focused on what was found, what is being done and what remains. Short plain-language notes work better than a list of component codes.
Use a dedicated testing stage when the device needs observation before collection. Customers can see the last update time without contacting the bench.
A workflow you could start with
These are examples. You can rename, add, remove or reorder stages for each tracking without changing other jobs.
Add 'Waiting for component' if supply is the bottleneck. Name the last stage 'Ready for collection' only after the checks pass.
A useful customer update
The power board has been repaired. The unit starts normally; we are running a longer test to confirm it remains stable before collection.
Write the outcome, not the jargon.
A useful update states the observed fault, the current action and the next check. Avoid posting private device data or unnecessary serial numbers. Trackroom is a progress page, not a diagnostic report or warranty system.
Questions from this kind of work
Can I track a console and a home appliance differently?
Yes. Create separate reusable workflows or adjust the stages on an individual tracking without affecting other devices.
Can customers see internal notes?
Progress updates are customer-facing. Only publish notes and attachments you intend the customer to read.
