Device services
Show what is happening to a laptop or desktop repair.
Keep hardware diagnosis, parts, software checks and handover visible while protecting the customer's private data.
A workflow you could start with
- 1Computer received
- 2Fault reproduced
- 3Repair or replacement
- 4System checks and handover
Where customers lose visibility
Repair status is harder to explain when the fault is intermittent.
A laptop that sometimes fails to boot can spend time in testing before a repair decision. A customer may mistake that necessary work for a stalled job.
Hardware replacement and software verification are different steps. Combining them under 'in progress' leaves the customer unsure when the machine is safe to collect.
What a progress page changes
Give the customer a readable checkpoint.
Post the result of the latest check in everyday language. Stages can separate diagnosis, repair and validation so a customer sees what remains.
Attach a relevant hardware photo when it helps, while keeping passwords, files and private screen content off the customer page.
A workflow you could start with
These are examples. You can rename, add, remove or reorder stages for each tracking without changing other jobs.
Add a data-backup or customer-decision stage only when it is actually part of your process; never imply data recovery is guaranteed.
A useful customer update
The replacement drive is installed and the system boots consistently. We are checking ports and running final diagnostics before arranging collection.
Be precise about data work.
Progress notes should say what was checked and what remains, not expose filenames, account details or unverified promises about recovery. If work affects customer data, handle consent and backups through your existing process.
Questions from this kind of work
Can a laptop repair have different steps from a desktop repair?
Yes. Start from different saved workflows or change the stage list for one tracking. Existing jobs keep their own stage snapshots.
Is Trackroom a remote diagnostic tool?
No. It is a customer-facing progress page. Your technicians still diagnose and repair devices using their normal tools.
