Made to order
Let buyers follow a piece from measurements to delivery.
Show design, materials, fabrication and finishing without claiming a custom order moves like an off-the-shelf shipment.
A workflow you could start with
- 1Measurements agreed
- 2Materials prepared
- 3Build in progress
- 4Finish and delivery
Where customers lose visibility
Most of the work happens out of the buyer's sight.
After measurements and a deposit, the customer may not see the piece again until delivery. Silence during material sourcing or finishing can feel like a stalled order.
Workshop work is not always linear. A design adjustment or delayed material needs an honest explanation without rewriting the whole order history.
What a progress page changes
Bring the workshop into view at useful moments.
Give each piece a page showing the current stage and dated notes. Photos of a frame or finish sample can make progress tangible without sharing private workshop records.
Change the stage sequence for a one-off design while leaving other orders and the original workflow untouched.
A workflow you could start with
These are examples. You can rename, add, remove or reorder stages for each tracking without changing other jobs.
A fitted cabinet may need site measurement and installation stages; an upholstered chair may need fabric selection and upholstery.
A useful customer update
The table frame is assembled and the top has been fitted. We are preparing the surface for finishing; the next update will follow the final coat.
Photograph milestones, not every workshop hour.
A clear photo at assembly or finishing is more useful than a stream of nearly identical images. If a material choice changes the schedule, state the decision needed and coordinate it through your existing sales channel.
Questions from this kind of work
Can I change stages after a custom order starts?
Yes. Each tracking has its own stage snapshot, so adding an upholstery or installation step does not alter other orders.
Can a buyer see progress without creating an account?
Yes. Send the private link. You can add a PIN if that order needs an extra access check.
